The list … man sandwiches

Like most things I think we tend to gravitate towards, the best, those things that are “foundational.” When my boys were even younger than they are right now I introduced them to the concept of the “man sandwich.” Now, not every Tom, Dick or Jane slapped on a couple of slices of bread will qualify. These appointments are reserved for only the truly foundational. Needless to say the boys are quick learnings – my youngest will always ask me when having a new sandwich, “dad, is this a man sandwich?”

While I can allow for some geographic diversity (and will even take advantage of that myself), certain things are universal. For my own purposes, these sandwiches are truly the foundation upon which all others follow (in no particular order):

  1. The Bacon Cheeseburger. I will hear no nonesense about how a burger is technically not a “sandwich.” Nor on my placement of the period in the preceeding sentence. #APStyleforlife. A burger is Americana like apple pie and the first man sandwich I introduced my young men too. Virtually all variations apply – bacon, blue cheese, BBQ pulled pork, fried eggs and hot sauce. Please, no veggie burgers! And as the lesson went – thumbs underneath, hands around back, elbows out!
  2. The BLT
  3. The Meatball Parm
  4. The Chicken Speedie
  5. The Reuben
